Sunday Happy

June 4, 2017 Colleen Stem

Isn't it suppose to be like summer? The weather around here has not been summer like,, more just chilly and rainy. I don't mind that it's a little on the cooler side, or that I don't have to water the garden, but I could use a little vitamin D so some sun would be appreciated. Okay and thanks.

This week was full of long ass days covered in paint and grimy apartment floors. The apartment turn overs are nearly done, (thank goodness) we just have a few more things to do like finish painting an apartment and finished hooking up all the washers and dryersI think it's now safe to say that we survived another year! And now we can get back to work on our house. Hopefully we will get all the siding up on the addition and the porch painted in the next few weeks. That's the plan anyways so if it's done by the end of summer we will be in good shape.

Jeff dad is here, or at least he was here for the past few days so in between fixing things and running all over, I got to spend a little time hanging with him. I always forget how much I am just like him until I am in a room with him. If I am related to anyone in my family, it is that guy.(but I am related to all of my family so that doesn't make sense) Oh and heck yeah, the mr and I finally, after way to long, got new phones!!!!! That may seem like a little thing that normal people do but the mr and I have had the same iphones for 5 years. They were so old and so cracked and broken that nothing really worked anymore. The people at the phone store were a little shocked to see what we have been using. So yeah, we did it and now I feel like the coolest kid around except that I am not.

And now it's Sunday. A little work for a few hours today by the mr and I are going to take the afternoon off and rest our achy bones. Cold and rainy is the forecast so maybe I'll cuddle up on the couch with a book and nap. Yeah, that sounds good.

Sunday Happy

May 21, 2017 Colleen Stem

Yesterday I unpacked my summer attire. Shorts, tank tops and all my summer things. The sunscreen is out, baseball hats are ready, window fans are going in. It's still spring, but give it a week. Summer is coming on fast and it's better to be prepared.

The week was interesting to say the least. The near heatwave during the middle of the week was a kick in the face. I forgot what hot was until I was sweating just from sitting. I really hope that that little spell wasn't a preview of what the summer is going to be like. I like warm, but hot is not gonna work. Damn it global warming. I also forgot about mosquitoes but that won't happen again. SO many bites it was crazy. I felt like I was being eaten alive. Stupid mosquitoes. But besides being hot and itchy, it was as good week. Lots of things got done as usual, more painting and yard work. We have a few apartment turnovers happening in a few weeks so we have been plugging away at things over at the houses.  We need to make things all clean and pretty again. There was the day I helped the mr change the oil in the truck, (and realized I never want to do that again) and another day when the littles came over and made a 100 square hop scotch while eating an entire cantaloupe. Fun times.

Sunday doings are going to consist of some dirt moving, garbage removing, and painting. It's hard to relax when there is so much to do. But I am going to spend a little time this afternoon, when it starts raining, with the old sewing machine making pillows and watching Master or None.  And chose paint colors. We need to figure out what color to paint the front porch. That's going to be fun (or not).

Things I read on the internet this week.

Sunday Happy

May 14, 2017 Colleen Stem

First off, the Happiest Day to all the mothers out there. You are great and make the world possible so thank you for that. Take care today to you. We are all better off when you are happy or to quote a sign hanging in my moms kitchen..When Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

Whoa did we spend a lot of time outside this week. The mr upin the trees cutting them down. Weeding out gardens and cleaning up lawns. So many trips to the wood chipping plant to get ride of all the wood. My arms have been sore all week and it's mostly from hauling large chunks of wood to the truck. That and all the dirt moving. 6 yards of dirt dropped off to fill up our raised beds. The garden is on it's way to being a real garden and I couldn't be any happier. First time in my life where I have had a yard with a garden to do what I please. It's freaking amazing. And now I am struggling with what to plant. I know that I will get a butt load of veggies form the farm but what do I want more of? Lots of greens are on their way and we need to have tomatoes but do I do an entire bed of carrots and beets? If so where while the husk cherries go?. And the pumpkins, should we just plant them out front? (the mr wants to turn the front lawn into a pumpkin patch. I am not entirely sure that is a good idea) So many things to consider.

Sunday has got me busy. I want to finish planting what needs planting, the laundry is backed up a few loads so I need to get on that and I have a mess of paperwork that I need to get through. Good day for it though cause it looks like a chilly rain today so hanging out on the back porch with my pile of crap won't be so bad. At least there will be lots of coffee.

Sunday Happy

Happy May! I love this month. It gets all warm (hopefully), flowers blooming, green trees and I am yet to get to super hot and cranks. Plus it's garden time!!!! Just a few more days and the 6 cubic yards of dirt are being dumped off at our house to fill up our raised beds and it's go time. All more poor seedlings are are the verge of not being good. They need to get into soil asap.

The past week has come and gone so fast. Rainy days or to cold temps have kept us from doing a lot of the outside work that we have been needing to do. (Can't paint in the rain) Fortunately there has been plenty of others things to do so we have been keeping pretty busy. Even with all the rain we have had, we did manage a good afternoon of firing up the big blow torch and shou sugi ban-ing. We finished making our raised beds, I carved a spoon (only cut myself twice) and got rid of the 5 extra cast iron radiators that have been in the back yard for a year. Also the back sun porch got a a floor to ceiling paint job and now we are waiting for it all to dry.  Busy as always, but it's been good to see so much get done.

Sunday doings. The back porch should be dry by today so I am hoping that I can spend some of the day. setting it up with comfy seating and then take a afternoon nap back there. Anything else we are doing today is kind of a wait and see deal...It all depends on the weather.

Sunday Happy

April 23, 2017 Colleen Stem

It's been a bit of a cold and dreary week. The damp has seeped into my bones and I have been walking around with blue lips and white fingers. It might not have helped that we turned the heat off a couple of weeks ago, I love spring weather but so many cold wet days takes it's toll. It's ok though because the weather is only getting better from here. And plus there is so much green stuff happening in the world that I don't really mind being a soggy mess. The tree buds make me smile.

Easter came and went yet the mr is still finding plastic filled with candy in the yard. He was one of the people that hid the over 100 eggs so part of me thinks he hid a few in hard to reach spots for himself to find later.(or that's what I would have done)  We had some littles spend the night, fling popcorn all over the place, watched Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them (finally) and made a catapult and a board game. Those littles man, they are some cool people.  And worked, or tried to at least. Most of the work we need to do is outside right now and because the week has been so up and down with weather we have found ourselves in a up and down, run around, get in and get out type of week. Projects started and keep piling on and we just need a good few stretches of weather to make a dent in the list. I feel like this is what happens every year, but this year just seems like everything at once. It's probably just because we are getting old, or it's getting old. Either way.

Today is suppose to a gem of day which means we are going to be outside working. Windows need to be scraped and glazed, we are going to get out the new giant torch and start burning some of the siding for the house, and we need to get on building the raised beds for the veggies. (The little lettuce and kale plants are screaming at me for more space!) I will probably take some time to sit in the middle of the yard with a book and watch for sunshine, you know, to see where the garden beds should go. And coffee. Cups and cups of it because I think that is what I need today. Happy Spring guys!

Oh, and happy birthday Rick.
