Sunday Happy

May 21, 2017 Colleen Stem

Yesterday I unpacked my summer attire. Shorts, tank tops and all my summer things. The sunscreen is out, baseball hats are ready, window fans are going in. It's still spring, but give it a week. Summer is coming on fast and it's better to be prepared.

The week was interesting to say the least. The near heatwave during the middle of the week was a kick in the face. I forgot what hot was until I was sweating just from sitting. I really hope that that little spell wasn't a preview of what the summer is going to be like. I like warm, but hot is not gonna work. Damn it global warming. I also forgot about mosquitoes but that won't happen again. SO many bites it was crazy. I felt like I was being eaten alive. Stupid mosquitoes. But besides being hot and itchy, it was as good week. Lots of things got done as usual, more painting and yard work. We have a few apartment turnovers happening in a few weeks so we have been plugging away at things over at the houses.  We need to make things all clean and pretty again. There was the day I helped the mr change the oil in the truck, (and realized I never want to do that again) and another day when the littles came over and made a 100 square hop scotch while eating an entire cantaloupe. Fun times.

Sunday doings are going to consist of some dirt moving, garbage removing, and painting. It's hard to relax when there is so much to do. But I am going to spend a little time this afternoon, when it starts raining, with the old sewing machine making pillows and watching Master or None.  And chose paint colors. We need to figure out what color to paint the front porch. That's going to be fun (or not).

April 9, 2017 Colleen Stem

I am so very excited and have been waiting all week for today. It is suppose to be sunny and warm and all springlike. Exactly what I need, like really really need.

The week past by fast. Mostly because I just wanted to get through it, get over the chilly rainy days and also the slight ick that I have had. It stared strong with dinner with Shannon who has found a new hobby basting chicken in butter.(she loves a good basting) Then we threw Megan's birthday in for good measure. We did accomplish a good bit of work, did some toilet and tile shopping, scouted out the work to be done for a few of the apartments (we are going to be busy to say the least) and went to a cedar mill to check out the product. Getting ready to burn some cedar siding here really soon,  Taxes are just about done and ready to be sent to man. Got rid of a bunch of shit from the basement and I finally spent some time cleaning out the loft. I think it's the spring cleaning bug, but I just want to take everything and throw it out.( When I say throw out, I mean donate, give away, and or recycle) I am so sick of stuff!

Today is outside all day long day. The backyard is in some serious need of attention (more then I can give it in one day),  the car could use a cleaning, and my bike. I can't wait to get my bike out of the basement. I think I need a new tire if I am remembering correctly, but maybe I'll change that out today too. OR maybe I will put on my favorite comfy sweater, grab a nice big blanket, fill a jug with coffee and spend the afternoon laying out in the grass reading, drawing, and or napping.  Yay Spring!!!!

I might not have been excited at first about the near 6 inches of snow that we got yesterday but it was actually really fun and nice, like a last hurrah of winter.. It was gorgeous, the mr and I got to play in it with a couple of littles (we built snow towers), we didn't really have to shovel anything, and it's already melting at a rapid pace. And now it can be spring and all will be good.

This week was a up and down week. A year since Sean passed making for some hard times, but there was also some good. It was my moms birthday so we had pretty much the entire family packed into our house for a birthday dinner. I have come to the realization that I might need to get more plates and that the contents of my fridge might not be what most people would call normal (Yes there are 20 heads of cabbage in there and a drawer full of celery roots. No I do not have ranch dressing or any dressing for that matter. Sorry) We did a bit of running around, trying to get some work done but again, the weather wasn't exactly cooperating and a lot of what we need to do is outside so we didn't get as much done as we wanted. Oh well. And then the mr got sick. In bed with a bug. Me, I am being the best girlfriend, fetching tea and ginger ale, warm wash clothes, blankets, and just being sweet. I figure that I might as well. I do like the guy and plus, it could be me in that bed sometime soon. (I better not get sick)

Today I am going to continue downing charcoal pills chased with apple cider vinegar to avoid getting any of this stomach bug thing and do a massive disinfection of everything that was touch, so basically a house clean day. Maybe I can even open some windows because it's suppose to be warm.  And maybe I'll drag the mr out for a walk. Chirping birds and fresh air. Hello there Spring!!!!

Sunday Happy

I am cold. And I know I shouldn't be complaining, that it is still winter and those fluke days of 60's and 70's where not suppose to happen, but still. I am freaking cold. I just wan to ditch the jacket and mittens and to live in sweaters all day long. Is that too much to ask? #sweaterlady

Last weekend the mr and I went down and over to PA to visit Dad and family. It was a blast. We got to see my grandmother and aunt and uncle on the farm and just get out of town for a few days. When we got home we clonked out then decided to rip up the porch. The plan was to wait until spring to do it, but the weekend was so warm and springy that we were like screw it, let's just do this and ripped it up. Then we spent half of the week tip toeing over thin wooden beams to get into and out of the house while hunting for decking and fixing the structure. Good thing the mr thought to stick a note on the door because leaving the house at 530 am when I am not exactly at my sharpest and it's dark outside... more then once that little sign saved me from disaster. After a long long day of 6 hardware stores hunting for decking, we finally found what we needed. (no one had enough in stock or what they did have was shit) And then the weather turned on us to a brutal blast of freaking cold. I was all, "Lets just wait until next week to finish", but not the mr. He was out there cutting and screwing and being an all around bad ass and laid down the new porch. I stayed inside, made hot soup and started collecting all the papers for taxes. Neither of us were having fun. But we do have a new porch, well kinda. The floor is down and now we just need to build the rest. That will come next week. And I do have a large stsck of papers. We get stuff done.

The past few days with also involved some littles, having my house trashed, and just the anxious feeling like there is much to do now and only so much more to come, I really need a down day and so does the mr.(his plan is to replace a toilet in one of the apartments today. He never stops) I am gonna rest my aching bones for a bit, buy a new toothbrush, make some bread (oven heat!) and try not to dread the gigantic pile of tax papers awaiting me for tomorrow (who a I kidding, it's going to take all week)

Sunday Happy

August 14, 2016 Colleen Stem

Hey hey hey.

Crazy freaking past month. I still feel like half of my person is gone and am still trudging through each day feeling the loss of Washer, but things are getting better, just still really sad and miss my pup like crazy. Trick is to stay super busy and that is what I have been doing. For one, we started back at the house again and have thrown ourselves into work. We are determined to get this freaking house done before the end of fall so we have been busting away all the days long. Things are getting done and now all the sheet rock is all up and the mr just finished the tape coat of mud.... Its all roses from here.

For another thing, there is so much family stuff lately and to be soon. A new baby just came , little miss Kayla (I keep calling her Keba), We had a family reunion, minus a few family member last week. I have lots of littles wanting attention before school starts again and oh,  my little brother is getting shipped of to military school this week, (an actual military college that he actually wants to go too). Add another baby due in a month and the fact that fall is coming on fast and that means only one thing .. Family birthday season has arrived. Well that and apples. But no joke, pretty much a birthday a week for the next 9 months.  I already have about 7 cake requests. It's about to get real around here.

As for cooking, well when Washer died, I pretty much stopped living for a week, but then when I started cooking again, I went through a week of making breads for the mr. (bread is very soothing to make, I think it's all the kneading) And then it got so super duper hella hot out that we have pretty much given up on preparing food and are just eating straight up cucumbers, zucchinis, and tomatoes, sometimes dipped inn mustard and hummus, by the bucketful. I think I am averaging about 3 cucumbers and 5 tomatoes a day. And now I am starting to get a bit of acid reflux. Hopefully this week won't be quite as crazy or quite as hot and I will have a little bit more time do some actual cooking, maybe some canning ( so many tomatoes!) and maybe share a recipe or 2.Lots of maybes here... we shall see.

Anyway, it is Sunday Sunday. The mr and I are leaving the house early and going for a little car, coffee, and maybe river adventure and are picking up a cast iron claw foot tub for the bathroom on the way. Wish us luck!
