Sunday Happy

Happy last day of February! Add a rapidly meting snow pack with 40 degree temaptures and we got ourselves a bonafide spring going on. Haha. I am not fooled. I have lived in this state my whole life. This is just a tease. I fully expect another snow storm and frigid temperatures to return again soon. But is sure is nice to have the windows open in the house for a little while!

Another week. More of the same stuff. Went for a little hike with the mr and then another with Megan, Barb, and So. I dived head on into 2020 paperwork for all of our favorite duty as Americans…Taxes. (😑), and Paul came over and sat on my back porch while I shaved his head. I worked, I read a book, I ran a lot. And that is about it.

Today the mr and I are going somewhere to walk the woods and have a car picnic lunch. After that I have a few house chores I need to get done. The littles (Miley, Judah, and Emerson) are going to be staying with us for the week while their mom has surgery so we are getting ready for that. I guess I probably should go grocery shopping as well. They eat a lot. Wish us luck!

Sunday Happy

All of a sudden I feel it. Spring is in the air. Not like spring is coming right now but there is a hint. The temperatures are rising a little (not -15 every morning) , the sunlight is stronger and the rising earlier. I am starting to get annoyed at my winter jacket. I want to clean every single nook and cranny of the house. Yeah, spring time. It is ah coming and I am not made about it!

Past another week and here we are. Not much different then other weeks for the past while. We went hiking on Valentines day and enjoyed just being together. Hung out with Barb, had a snow storm that didn't actually accumulate to much (although I did have to shovel a lot…stupid plow kept me busy) and spent a lot of time with the clay in both studios. Uneventful but eventful enough. I am starting to feel a bit antsy, like I need to run the streets screaming, and I am not sure if it is pandemic fatigue, a little touch of cabin fever, or if I am just losing my mind. It’s probably a bit of all three. So yeah, there is that. HA!

Today, circled right back to Sunday. What to do? The mr and I both have a bunch of stuff going on the next few days (weeks) so I don’t know how much time we will have to wonder off today but we really need to chill for a least a little while. Thinking maybe a smaller hike nearby or even just a nice long stroll along the lake. That actually sounds nice. And coffee. A lakeside coffee stroll.

And I think I might have just made a plan. Good on me!

Sunday Happy

Happy Sunday! Another week gone by and we are just living it the best we can. I don’t know about you but I love me some mid February vibes. It’s not usually terribly cold (well, not usually. It was freaking -15 again for a few days..) but February winter is good winter. There is snow on the ground, days on and off of gloom and sun, and the light is getting just a bit longer and stonger every day. There is also the anticipation of spring to come soon (in like 2 months) and that is one of the best things about the seasons, that they change! Plus this is the time of the year that I start thinking about the garden and what to plant and getting all the things ready. So yeah, love me some February!

Again another week flew on by. I went for a couple hikes, one with the mr and one with Megans and So. Barb and I walked all the neighborhoods and I keep on feeding her face. I also did a lot of glazing, sold offf mugs, and over all did a bunch of studio work. We had the littles over for pizza night and to play with those spinning things that I can’t seem to remember the names of (busty blades?) I also busted the sewing machine out to sew a heart on a sweater and to make Barb a new neck warmer (pictured above). And I made soooo much bread, a cute ass cake with hearts, and manage to keep the tip of my nose from completely falling off even though the skin had been peeling off. Definitely got frost bite. Anyways, not much of the super exciting, just plugging away at life, drinking lots of water, organizing that papers, doing the stuff.

Back to Sunday and Happy Valentines Day to those who celebrate it! The mr and I always do but not with gifts or flowers and definitely not with fancy dinners and shit. No, we always just make sure that we get to spend the day together, not bickering, and do something fun. And yes, there are hearts involved but that is not just a Valentines day thing for us (we have hearts all over the house). So today being that is is Sunday AND Valentines Day, we are doing our usually and going for a good hike, getting coffee, and chilling out a bit but then we decided we will eat dinner at the table and not the kitchen island. That is romance right there. HAHA! And then maybe we will try to watch a movie together ( I say try because I will probably fall asleep on the couch by 8). Nothing fancy, just quality time with my love and that what Valentines Day is all about.

Stuff from the internet.

Companies are failing to do this one simple thing that could boost recycling

Sunday Happy

What a week, what a week. I think we can all say that.

I think we all know the big news by now. Biden and Kamala WON!!!! A new President and the very first female Vice President! Thank the fucking universe! And can I just say, female and president, those words sound so right together, right!

After hearing the news the feeling of relief was so extreme… like a big stupid red face beast was beaten off my back. OR like when you are sick and barf but then feel better after. Yeah, like that. And now I am going to hide in a hole for a little while because I got so completely overstimulated what with my own shit and all the emotions and opinions of others that I can barely think straight. I am ready for a good long break from it all and will come back to in a few weeks when the garbage get cleared away. We know there is going to e a hissy fit shit show to be had and I just don’t want to give it any more of my attention to it. 4 years was 4 years too much.

So that was some fantastic news. But on the downside, which is really a down, is that my bike got stolen Yup. Wednesday morning I biked to my normal spot by the woods for my morning run, went on run, and came out of woods to no bike. Someone (or someones.. an older man saw 2 mother fuckers.) grabbed my bike. I was shocked. And crushed, And so fucking mad. Walked around and drove around to see if I could find the fucks but no luck. Cops were nice but I know that is not happening and now I am rolling around on my old, very broken, frame that doesn't really fit me , brakes that barely work, and kind of actually hurts to rid, bike. MAHH! I am just still so pissed but oh well, nothing more I can do.

But there was some highlights from the week as well. It SNOWED and we had a really cold snap. For about 3 days we had a nice little covering of the white stuff. I was wearing hats and mittens and winter gear, and I felt more calm and centered then I have all year. But then it melted and got hot and it basically summer again, which was nice for a minutes when the mr and I cleaned the shit out the yard and garden, but I am fully and completely over it and really just want it to be cold and snowy again. I also picked up the first of my winter farm share and got a huge stock of Brussel sprouts, did a bunch of glaze work at the studio, spent some good time with Barb, got my winter tires on (I have the best bro in law. Thanks Justin!) and harvested all my dead flowers to keep for seeds.

But my bike.

So today. The mr and are heading out of town for a nice long out of town adventure. Hike and woods and peace and quiet. Keeping it simple like.

Internet stuff that came from the internet.

-Is It Better to Plant Trees or Let Forests Regrow Naturally?. Stop cutting down trees AND plant more.

-I Missed My Coworkers, So I Made Masks of Their Faces. Scary but I get it. HA!

-I have had my travel mug for 16ish years now (the mr bought it for me as a present) and use it at least once a day. But the rim is bent and the lid barely stays on and I have been thinking it might be time for a new one, maybe. But I like this one.

Sunday Happy

November 1, 2020 Colleen Stem

Anyone else wake up wondering what time it was or what day, month, and or year it was for that matter? The time change happened last night so if you have a clock without smarts, well it is probably wrong if you haven’t changed it yet. As for the overall feel of time this year, well I feel like lengths of time have been displaced and lost this year so it is nice to get an hour back, even if I lost 6 months. HA!

We finished of the last week with the last days of October, and it was good. Did out last hurrah camping at Little River State park which was delightfully cold and gorgeous with very few people to be seen. We went for a long hike, ate hot pumpkin lentil soup, and spent a good amount of time sitting by the fire trying not to burn our faces off but trying to get close enough to not be freezing. Once the fire went down we crawled into the tent for bed and slept our last night outside. Then we woke up, I made the coffee, and we broke down camp for the last time. On our way out of the park, we noticed a lot of tiny leaves falling from the trees only to realize that it was not leaves, but snow! Within 5 minutes it went from flurries to a freaking blizzard and it was just AMAZING and I loved every bit of it. The mr, not so much. He isn’t ready for the cold.

Then back to it. The mr off on one of his many projects he has going on and I spent a good amount of time in the studio. We took Barb to look at used cars (no car yet), and I picked up the last summer farm share. (Winter share starts next week..phew!) And yes, we finally turned the heat on, although I think I could do without it for a little while longer. I prefer the heat of a thousand sweaters. HA!

And then all of a sudden it was Halloween. How was your Halloween? Ours was weird. We somehow forgot to carve pumpkins this year (I know we are not the only ones) and we knew we weren’t taking the littles out. We also decided against handing out candy cause well, you know. So instead we had the littles over and had a cookie decorating party. We ate lunch then let them get all sugared up and run around like animals all afternoon which is always a good time. Plus they still got a shit ton of candy and did so without all the work. So yeah, things weren’t bad for the littles this year. What was bad was the crazy ass mess they left me with. I know I have bitched about this before but, How the hell do they get sprinkles and frosting on EVERYTHING? There was even frosting all over the toilet. One thing I did learn though this cookie party is to never let them use tiny colored dusting sugar ever ever again. That shit spreads like fire.

Sunday. Welp, we are not camping (I’m feeling sad about it) but hopefully we are going to get out of town for a hot minute and walk into some woods. I know that the mr has a bunch of things he has to to today so I will probably be on my own for most of of the day. Not going to lie, I am kind of looking forward to it. I think I am going to grab a cozy sweater and a blanket, lots of hot coffee, and plop down on the porch and read for a while. Going for the next best thing. And hey, we are still going to eat pumpkin lentil stew for dinner so there is that.

One more thing…Make sure, if you haven’t yet, you get your ass out there and VOTE!!!!!!!!!
