Sunday Happy

December 19, 2021 Colleen Stem

Oh thank goodness it snowed yesterday. The past week of the weird warm weather just put me into a funk but last night going for a walk in fresh snow refreshed my brain a bit. I don’t like warm weather in winter. It’s just not right.

The week and just not any week but the week before Christmas week and all seemed a little chaotic. But was it really? Just a bit of running around here and there, trying to get some last minutes things done. Grocery shopping, list making, dealing with people. People dealing with me. I finally got the winter tires on the car, made a dentist appointment, you know, adult things. So maybe not that chaotic but still. I am ready for a couple days if not, you know?

A few nights ago we had the littles over for our traditional cookie house decorating shenanigans and it was a hoot. Spent that day making cookies, waiting oh so patiently for the house cookie cutters that I decided to buy to come in the mail (they were days late and said they would be there). Finally decided they weren’t coming and free handed the cutouts. Just as I was putting the last batch of cookies in the oven, the cutters arrived. That was some shit. Anyways, the cookies might not have been perfectly cut, but they worked just the same and the littles came over, busted open all the sprinkles and frosting they could get their hands on, made the cutest houses, and ate all the sugar. We had dinner then a dance party and then they left. That was Wednesday. I am still finding sprinkles everywhere.

And the rest of the week was. I worked, did some last bits of glazing, cleaned the crap out of the house, and yeah. thats about what I got.

Back to Sunday. I’m excited because the mr and I are going to a lovely spot in the woods for a nice snowy winter hike. Probably going to get some coffee after that and then probably going to spend the rest of the day reading. I want a chill day. I have a feeling (I know!)nthat this next week is going to be a little chaotic too.

Oh how nice it is to wake up and not feel like a complete trash can. Yeah I got me my booster shot a few days ago and yeah it knocked me on my ass. Not as bad as the last shot which kept me in bed for 3 days but damn was I feeling like super shit. But I am boosted so go me!

Besides the end of the week ill, the week was pretty fantastic. There was hikes with the mr and with Megan. There was lots of good snow. I made cookies and a giant ass ice cream cake (for So’s birthday ). Then the mr and I went and did our traditional Christmas tree hunt in the National Forest. We got a good one this year (we get a good one every year). I pulled more holiday mugs from the kiln, finally opened my online shop, stem+node ceramics, which is accessible through my blog, and like I said before, I got my booster.

And then I was sick. But I kind of figured it would happen. Anyways, even though I wanted to smash my pounding head into a concrete wall and could barely carry around my own weight, I railed and made it to Sophias 9th birthday party (I had too. I made the bread for dinner and said cake) I sat with her in the dark and watched holiday baking shows until everyone else came, then slinked away to watch her dance around, open presents and be the greatest at being a 9 year old. Then I went home and crashed. Yesterday was a flop. I managed to get a few things done but those damn side effects… Whatever. It snowed a big fluffy gorgeous snow and I went for a nice walk in it so I was good.

Now Sunday and I am feeling much better (my head still kinda hurts thought but it is still early so hopefully it will fade). The plan for the day is I need to run to the studio this morning and glaze a few pieces then the mr and I are suppose to go for a hike somewhere. After that we plan to work on the Christmas cards. Are we gonna get them done today? I am sure will will… like kinda sure… But if they don’t that is cool right? They will get done and mailed by the end of the week. That’s good. We got this!

Now that Thanksgiving is over it is all FA LA LA LA LA LA LA and I am here for it. I started listening to Christmas music (only good tasteful stuff), I pulled out all the decorations, and it snowed!!! I had nothing to do with the snow but still. I am so excited for snow.

The week. I spent a lot of time at the studio glazing which was nice because no one else was there so I had the whole place to myself. I took a lot of pictures (of pottery), worked on my new website which is taking more time then I would like, and did some stuff that I can’t remember. Then all of a sudden it was Thanksgiving. The mr and I went for our traditional Thanksgiving day hike and then chilled for the rest of the day. We were suppose to have the littles over for dinner but they ditched us for a better offer. 🤣. But it was all good. I made soup for dinner and the mr ordered Chinese food. We were both happy with that.

The day after the boys came over and we just hung out playing around, did some drawing, and when we noticed the rain turned, we went outside and played in the snow which really was the best. Judah slept over, we watched Home Alone, and when I woke up the next morning with too much snow to ride my bike in but man was running through the snowy woods just fantastic.

Back to Sunday. What am I doing today? Probably going to spend more time then I attend to at the studio glazing, definitely going for a little hike with the mr, and I am going to finish putting up all my Christmas decorations. Then I need to dig out the tree stand cause thats happening this week too! I am so excited! Christmas trees are the real reason to celebrate Christmas !

Thanksgiving week coming up on us here and yeah, what the? How? Every year this happens but I guess that what’s expected when it is a yearly holiday. 🤣

The past week was kind of busy. I’m trying to get a big batch of mugs done so I have been spending a lot of time with the clay. I also started, but had to stop, painting all the radiators because the paint store screwed up the paint (gave us the wrong finish) and it took a few days to get back to the store and get the right paint. So I decided to go ahead and paint the bathroom (pink) because why the heck not do that when I have a ton of other shit I could be doing. Besides that, a lot of the same. Walks and hikes, feeding people food, living life. Big news on the mr front though… He got a hair cut. And not from me, but a soon to be professional hair cutter person (It was Qui, our brother friend) He went into a shop, sat in a chair and let Qui perform his very first human haircut on his actual head. And you know, it looks pretty damn good. And bonus, I didn’t have to do it or deal with the hair getting in my toothbrush. (Every fucking time!)

And yesterday we had family Thanksgiving and whoa I am freaking tired. Spent the entire day chopping and peeling. Kneading and roasting, then everyone came over, ate the food, made the mess, and left. It was so nice nice nice to see everyone all together although being that there are a million if us it is hard to cook, talk, and clean all at once so I never feel like I get to talk to everyone as much as I want t. Good thing we have 10 million other family events coming up so I’ll ne able to catch up eventually and noe that I think of it I might as well just leave my house thrashed for the next few weeks and just wait to do a massive clean after all the holiday tomfoolery.

Now it is Sunday and yeah, not going to leave the house trashed. Can’t do it so I am basically going to spend the day cleaning food out of all the cracks of the floor, wash all the laundry that some how ended up dirty (we only use cloth napkins and towels so theres a lot of dirty things) , and reorganize the very precarious food container situation in the fridge. One wrong move and the whole contents could come crashing down. Wish me luck!

Does anyone else feel like time is going by like a sink drip (I don’t even know what that means.) But basically super fast and really slow and holy shit it is almost the end of the year and when did that happen? Yeah, I got hit with that realization and it’s kinda thrown me off and now I don’t even know. You know?

We started off the week with camping at Mt Ascutney State park and we brought along Barb for the fun. Drove down into the gorgeousness of the woods, hiked up a mountain in the cold, walked around the campground in the rain, made food, ate food, and sat by the fire. When the rain got bad enough we slipped into our tents and assed out, woke up, made coffee, and drove on home.

And then it was Barbs birthday so we did that. Food and cake at moms and everyones mouth turned blue except mine cause I don’t eat cake.

Then the rest of the week was a lot of pot painting, waxing, and glazing. I also managed to sneak in a wet ass hike with Meg and So. I also picked up one of the last summer farm shares, cleared out more of the garden, and made a batch of bagels because why not.

Yesterday we had all the littles over to carve/paint pumpkins. It was messy, it was loud, and it was fantastic. The mr was a champ and gutted them all, I made food and offered up my knife cutting skills, and Barb got white paint all over my floor. Miley, Jada and Judah are old enough now where we dont matter much so they did their own thing but little Coco, oh what a ham that kid is! Painted and grooved to tunes and just was such a happy dude. Gosh I love those little people!.

Needless to say the pumpkins came out great and after everyone left I spent the rest of the night cleaning up paint and pumpkin guts…Of course.

It’s Sunday and it is the last camping Sunday of the year. I always get sad when camping season ends but we got this last one and we are gong to make it count. A good hike, a big fire, and all the warmest clothes. It’s gonna be a cold one, it might even snow a little tonight and I am all the way here for it. (Yay!)
