Sunday Happy

April 23, 2017 Colleen Stem

It's been a bit of a cold and dreary week. The damp has seeped into my bones and I have been walking around with blue lips and white fingers. It might not have helped that we turned the heat off a couple of weeks ago, I love spring weather but so many cold wet days takes it's toll. It's ok though because the weather is only getting better from here. And plus there is so much green stuff happening in the world that I don't really mind being a soggy mess. The tree buds make me smile.

Easter came and went yet the mr is still finding plastic filled with candy in the yard. He was one of the people that hid the over 100 eggs so part of me thinks he hid a few in hard to reach spots for himself to find later.(or that's what I would have done)  We had some littles spend the night, fling popcorn all over the place, watched Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them (finally) and made a catapult and a board game. Those littles man, they are some cool people.  And worked, or tried to at least. Most of the work we need to do is outside right now and because the week has been so up and down with weather we have found ourselves in a up and down, run around, get in and get out type of week. Projects started and keep piling on and we just need a good few stretches of weather to make a dent in the list. I feel like this is what happens every year, but this year just seems like everything at once. It's probably just because we are getting old, or it's getting old. Either way.

Today is suppose to a gem of day which means we are going to be outside working. Windows need to be scraped and glazed, we are going to get out the new giant torch and start burning some of the siding for the house, and we need to get on building the raised beds for the veggies. (The little lettuce and kale plants are screaming at me for more space!) I will probably take some time to sit in the middle of the yard with a book and watch for sunshine, you know, to see where the garden beds should go. And coffee. Cups and cups of it because I think that is what I need today. Happy Spring guys!

Oh, and happy birthday Rick.

Sunday Happy

April 16, 2017 Colleen Stem

Every part of my body hurts today. Over the past few days the mr and I have hauled more then a ton of construction trash out of the back yard and drove it to the dump (finally), cleaned the crap out of the yard , picked up the large load of cedar for the siding of the addition and cleared out the basement. Nonstop tossing and picking shit up is catching up with me, but man does it feel good to get all things done, outside no less. And in a t shirt. It's a gratifying pain.

On top of all that we have been plugging away at the front porch, the mr has been scrapping and prepping one of the apartment building for a new coat of paint (not exactly excited to have to paint 2 very large buildings in the next 2 months) and I accomplished finishing the taxes. All we need to do now is send them all of out money and a few vital organs. Worst case scenario is we air bnb out the house far a little while in live in the teepee the kids built in the back yard.  I mean the thing even has lights so it would be kind nice. Glamping but without all the glam. I think it would be great.

It's Sunday and Easter so that means family. Everyone is coming over hear for lunch, bubbles, sidewalk chalk and hula hooping. There will of course be an egg hunt which is always fun to watch. Nine or so littles running around trying to find candy filled plastic eggs without getting into a fist fight. Its ruthless and pretty freaking comical. (especially when you hide all the eggs high in the trees and hide them empty while the adults sit back and eat candy ) I figured since we cleaned the yard of all the nails and rusty metal and it's so freaking nice out that everyone needs to enjoy it and stay out of my clean house. Haha (but really)

Hope you all are finding your day full of happy spring things too!

Sunday Happy

April 2, 2017 Colleen Stem

I might not have been excited at first about the near 6 inches of snow that we got yesterday but it was actually really fun and nice, like a last hurrah of winter.. It was gorgeous, the mr and I got to play in it with a couple of littles (we built snow towers), we didn't really have to shovel anything, and it's already melting at a rapid pace. And now it can be spring and all will be good.

This week was a up and down week. A year since Sean passed making for some hard times, but there was also some good. It was my moms birthday so we had pretty much the entire family packed into our house for a birthday dinner. I have come to the realization that I might need to get more plates and that the contents of my fridge might not be what most people would call normal (Yes there are 20 heads of cabbage in there and a drawer full of celery roots. No I do not have ranch dressing or any dressing for that matter. Sorry) We did a bit of running around, trying to get some work done but again, the weather wasn't exactly cooperating and a lot of what we need to do is outside so we didn't get as much done as we wanted. Oh well. And then the mr got sick. In bed with a bug. Me, I am being the best girlfriend, fetching tea and ginger ale, warm wash clothes, blankets, and just being sweet. I figure that I might as well. I do like the guy and plus, it could be me in that bed sometime soon. (I better not get sick)

Today I am going to continue downing charcoal pills chased with apple cider vinegar to avoid getting any of this stomach bug thing and do a massive disinfection of everything that was touch, so basically a house clean day. Maybe I can even open some windows because it's suppose to be warm.  And maybe I'll drag the mr out for a walk. Chirping birds and fresh air. Hello there Spring!!!!

Sunday Happy

March 19, 2017 Colleen Stem

Well that blizzard happened. And so did a bunch of other crazy shit.

We got slammed here in the northwest parts of Vermont. 30 inches or so all in a days time. It was lovely and exciting and a little daunting. I shoveled and shoveled and shoveled some more. My boots got filled with snow, my mittens soaked, and my arms a bit sore, but all in all I came out unscathed and actually quite happy for the massive amount of the white stuff. If it's gonna snow, might as well make it a massive snowstorm. And now thanks to all the snow drifting and city workers blowing the sidewalk snow into the front yard, I now have my very own snow tunnel system. Miley and Judah being the architects and the mr and I the labor.  Nothing beats a warm sunny day playing in the snow.

And then there was the furnace that shit the bed. The mr has been dealing with this heater at one of our buildings for a few weeks now and finally during the storm, after a few visits with the plumbers, the old hunk of metal decided it was time. On it's last leg, barely lasting the week, the mr has been obsessively running back and forth to relight the thing just to milk as much heat as possible from it until the plumbers come Monday morning with a all new heating system. (There goes our vacation to the Bahamas. Ok, there was never a vacation planned, but now there won't be one)

To top off a strange week, one nephew (Jackson) broken an ankle and another (Alex) is in the hospital after his appendix almost exploded. Then we attended an elementary school play where Miley played a bum and a knight and Judah dance like a rat. A day with Sophia throwing snow at the mr and leaving a trail of glitter all over house and car.....What a week. What a week indeed.

I feel like today is kind of a make up day for all the shit that I didn't get a chance to do the past few days. A little paperwork, a bit of cleaning, grocery shopping. But if I am good and get it all done early enough I hope to escape to the trees and spend part of the day outside being calm and quite. I think I can make it happen. I need to make it happen.

Pennsylvania and the Red Cat Farm

Two weekends ago (jeez, has it really been two weeks? Yeah, to answer my own question. ) the mr and I ventured down and over to PA for a quick visit to the dad, the grandmother, and the aunt. Our own little tour de family. Driving down then all the driving around once we got there....not gonna lie, my ass was sore. But it was oh so worth it. I got to chat away with Grammy and hear all about new animal facts, funny jokes, and just get some Grammy love. Then we packed Grams into Dads car (he was doing all the driving around) and ventures to my aunt Tina's farm for lunch where we were re-introduced to my uncle who me or any of my siblings haven't seen in years. It's been a long standing joke between us that he didn't really exist.( he is real guys!) We walked the farm in our long sleeve t-shirt, ate some amazing food prepared by Tina herself, and spent the afternoon talking and watching the late February lightning storm while petting the cats. It was the perfect visit with some amazing people.

So here are picture, mostly from the the farm (Red Cat Farm) Every time we visit I fall in love a little more. Small farm, school house full of awesome old stuff, happy chicken, veggies all over, and a kick ass stove. #lifegoals.
