Sunday Happy

July 19, 2020 Colleen Stem

The mr and I just got back home from the night in the woods. Random woods camping. Never a disappointment, always a good time, and free. Free and no people. What more can you ask for?

And so my brain, as per usual after a good night of camping, is a little on the “why did we come back to civilization?” side. I am unfocused and a little tired and smell like dirt and sweat. On that note, I give you what I have from the week, which is not a lot at the moment. It know it was decent but not very eventful. We did some stuff, worked on things, moved around this and that, and ate food. I could give you more details but I don’t really have the energy to remember them so 🤷‍♀️. Then yesterday we went into the woods to hike and sleep and had us a 100% perfect time far and away from people and things.

Now we are back home because we had to come back (the mr has some work things needing to be done today). I think after I am done writing this I should jump into the shower to wash the smell the pee off my feet. Then I need to water the plants, drink lots of water, and get ready for the 100 plus degree day that is laying ahead. I don’t exactly know what I am going to be doing today but I am already pissed off just thinking about how hot I am going to be. Maybe I will just lay in the shade with the sprinkler cascading on my body or just hide away in the basement and read. You know what I do know? I know that 100 degrees is just stupid.

Internet stuff from the week.

-How to Keep Your Apartment Cool (With or Without AC) because being hot sucks.

-We should all be wearing masks already but if anyone can convince people that are still not to actually wear one, it’s this guy. Will you wear a mask if Morgan Freeman asks you to? We’re about to find out

-Bill Nye says trust in science is key to beating COVID-19 and climate change. Because science is real and opinions and uneducated bull shit is not in fact, facts. Listen to Bill.

-Are you one to just toss anything and everything that has a hint of mold? Truth be told, I have never been offset by a little mold here or there. Just be smart about it. And if it taste like mold, well then, don't eat it. Mold on Food, Explained

-How to Watch Comet Neowise’s Spectacular Show. I think I saw it last night camping. There are so many shoot stars too so I could be wrong. Either way, the sky was fucking awesome!

-When we re sheetrock the bedroom I am going to for sure going to do a built in bookshelf next my side of the bed just like the one in the picture. DESIRABLE DOZEN: COFFEE TABLE BOOKS & CHIC MAGAZINES.

-The End of Minimalism. Keeping a cluttered house has long been considered a little tacky, a little weak. But now it’s looking very wise. Interesting take on having lots of stuff, but I still hate having stuff!

-The mr and I were doing school stuff with the littles and it was a pain I the ass. And they might not be going back, or at least full time, for a while. Mayne this might be a good time to try this. The case for unschooling, because honestly I feel like the last semester was kind of bullshit and they really didn’t learn anything.

-Michelle Obama to launch podcast about relationships and health. In my mind Michelle is one of my best friend so I am really excited. Goodness I miss the Obamas. So so much.

And a few pictures from the week

July 12, 2020 Colleen Stem

I don’t know about you but this past week I had a massive case of heat rage. The heat and humidity together turned me. It curdled my soul and I spent more time worrying about my braincells and if the drip coming from my ears was sweat or if the wax was just melting and leaking out. It wasn’t my greatest week, thats for damn sure.

Besides being a miserable excuse of a human half of the time this week, the other half I was trying my hardest to be productive and not a complete lazy and cranky bitch. So I did stuff. I loaded a kiln and talked clay for the first time in months which was good for my studio space and good for my mind. The mr and I had dinner at moms again. I picked up farm share and then picked flowers. I ran a lot and biked a lot but early early in the mornings. Then I made THREE birthday cakes (one was an ice cream cake…that was a fucker in the heat) and helped decorate for the surprise birthday party for the 3 nieces. Their birthdays are pretty much all the same day (Laura is the 21, Emma the 22, and Kayla the 26) which is so smart cause then you only need to have one big party. Ha. . The party was great, the whole fam (and just the fam) hung out in the shade of the trees and tried not to melt. Good times as always.

And there were other things but my basic bitchiness clouded over it all. So yeah. I really fucking hate the heat.

Today the weather calls for thunderstorms and slightly cooler weather and I am ecstatic about it. So for the day ahead I am planning to do a few putzy house chores (I have a fair amount of laundry to do) and then it’s going to be me on the porch, with a book, and all the coffee. If the lightning is far off I might even talk a walk in the rain. I think it will be a good day.

-The mr and I are very lucky to have 2 porches, one in the back which is more a sun porch, and one out front. In the summer the sun porch gets way to freaking hot so we hang out on the front porch. I love it except those times when I don’t want to talk to anyone, usually in the morning while drinking my coffee and reading. IT’s nice to chat with people off the street but sometimes I just want to be left alone (ok, most of the time) THE PORCH PUZZLE

Happy freaking springtime! Warmer weather, green and blooming everything, grey skies, downpours, burst of sunlight. Everything about this time of year touches the deepest pits of my soul. This weather is me. I live for it!

The week. Well no lying, it’s been a shitstrom and I am really tired and stressed..Basically just a bunch of crazy stuff with a bunch of people that has been piling on. That and I’m pretty much just sick and tired of people and drama and grown ass adult people acting like fuck faces and doing all the shit that I just don’t want to have to deal with let alone think about. Gosh that sounds intense right? But life and I am dealing with it so whatever. On s smaller scale of life woes, that fridge keeps freezing up again so we had to completely take it apart, clean out the 50 years of shit that has built up inside, and put it back together again. Hopefully we fixed it this time for real. Can’t deal with having to get a new fridge right now, that will tip me over the edge! AAAAHHHHH!!! At least I got to a hang out with littles all this week, littles that can be shitheads in every way but are still the coolest people I know. We had sleep overs, pancakes breakfasts, lots of walks, bean bag fun, camp out planning, and basically just hung out. I have woke up twice this week and stepped on a dinosaur, well once it was a cow, but yeah. They keep it real and keep me insane in the sanest way possible. Even when they trash my house and get boogers and peanut butter all over the couch.

Today. Hopefully not a crazy day. I need a new watering can, one with holes for gentle watering, so bad. My outside hose situation is not working at the moment and my old metal can split in half during the winter. So today I guess I am going to go to the gardening store and get one. It is weird to even think about, that I can go into a store now and I am not actually that sure I really want to. I might just order it online and do curb side pickup, although I kind of want to look at rakes (broke that handle of that too) and some new shears… Blah, I am not looking forward to it, but I Am looking forward to planting more shit in the garden today. Also hoping for a bike ride at some point, probably over to the littles house to make them lunch and get all the tude I can handle! A day, what a day.

February 11, 2018 Colleen Stem
IMG_3707-1 2.jpg

Another week come and gone. The month of February is already flying by and I would be lying if I said I cared, because I kind of don't. It's not that I am not appreciative of every day and all that good stuff, but I am, and more so everyone around me, are in the midst of some serious winter crazy. It happens, and I accept it, but I just want to open all windows, stop having to wear all the layers, sleep under a tree, and get away from all the people. I could do all that now, but then I would be really cold , so I wait, and I deal with all the crazy. At least I like winter weather and have been able to escape outside when I need to. But I think that hardest part for me right now it food. I miss freshy fresh food. This is probably my slimmest month for food, which is basically all roots.  I have gone through pretty much all of my back stock of frozen and canned stuff from last summer. I have already gone through all my farm share which  is basically all roots and hasn't had much for greens lately and probably won't for another few weeks. I am starting to really crave the fresh stuff, more greens, beans, tomatoes, eggplants, you know, the spring and summer stuff. Yeah sure I can go buy that food at the grocery store, but it is all  out of season and would probably taste like shit so I will settle for bitching a little here and wait for the good stuff to be more in season. That is the natural thing to do.

Enough of the bitching because it really hasn't been a bad week.  The mr and I went for a little hike in the woods which was just so very very nice. Did a bit of babysitting of just the baby. (he is obsessed with his Woody and Jessie calls.. so dang cute) We hung out with the bigger littles and talked lofted bed building, and my mom and Barb came over to eat the cutest little heart jam hand pies. The mr got his new mud hawk which he now carries around the house everywhere with him and has also been bringing home more and more tools to add to the collection on the back porch (aka, the wooden spoon carving work shop)  He is now officially obsessed.

The Olympics started and I have sound myself on more then one occasion watching the people do the craziest of things.(are you watching?) I never used to really care but I don't know, I found myself a little more interested this year, especially in the figure skating. Those athletes are beasts. How the heck they do what they do  it is beyond me. I guess that is why we watch them right?

I was talking last week about how I wanted to start painting everything. Well I haven't painted everything, but I did paint the kids rooms cave a really dark blue. I am really excited to finish painting all the stars and set the room up more for the kids and also so that the mr and I can use it a bit too.  House projects.. I am trying to not get myself to deep into anything right now, at least until I can open the windows to air out the fumes. (paint fumes are not joke)

I am not are whats going on today. The mr is running around, doing some  landlord stuff, some moving , some shaking. (That guy, I tell you, he is always doing something for someone else. He really is a gem of a person.) Me, I might lend a hand too, but I really just want to keep on painting the room, do laundry, take a walk into the woods, and nap. Or drink all the coffee in the world, embrace the crazy stirring inside of me, and see where I end up. Maybe I'll go take a crack at some figurer skating.. hahaha. I don't not need to spend the day in the hospital.

December 10, 2017 Colleen Stem

Because sometime you leave the gym and get stuck in traffic because hundreds of Santas are running down the street.

The week started off with Sophia's unicorn themed birthday party. I made the cake which was devoted because chocolate chococate chocolate covered in chocolate is a very desirable cake. Sure it was great to celebrate So and all, but the greatest part about her party was the inspiration. Shannon and I have decided that we are gong to make a magical life guide / nose to tale cookbook of unicorns. Life advice of how to live with and eat a mythical creature. And of course sell it at Urban Outfitters because were else to you sell shit like that . HA ha.

After that party things were pretty basic. Some work here and there, more paperwork, talking to accountants, health insurance bullshit. (BULLSHIT!!!!) The end of the year is creeping up fast and I am trying not to think to hard about it and get overwhelmed. There are more important things like cookies and present making that I need to focus on first. The littles came over for dinner as usual, which is now becoming more of a challenge because every time they come over they no longer like a food that they actually really like. I think they are just trying to drive me crazy but we still all like black beans and green beans so if that is what we eat foe every dinner, then so be it.  Then there was the windy night where the mr's soccer ball was swept away. He has been walking around the neighborhood(we both have)  searching for it, looking under cars, in bushes, asking neighbors, posting on front porch forum. There is suspicion that a kid down the street stole it, ( the mr thinks the kid is jealous of his skills) but we have no proof. I decided that I will wait for a few more day and then it's time, we just need to get a new soccer ball. Little Judah was nice enough to bring over his  ball for them to kick around for the day but the mr needs one right outside the front door at all times. See he had pretty much perfected the rainbow trick and was on his way to being a soccer star, but now the ball is gone. And he is sad and losing his new soccer trick skills by the day so we need to get the guy a new ball fast. It has been a high drama week without it.

Friday night we had a little birthday party for the mr. It was a grilled cheese and soup  with chocolate chip cookie and strawberry ice cream sandwich party which turned out to be fantastic. I am really starting appreciate simple, easy food to serve people that require little prep time and no oven. People came, people ate, people were mostly happy, and the mr had fun and got new sock. And that was just the kick off of his birthday weekend. Yesterday we went for a drive to where we used to live long ago, went for a little hike. Had some lunch, got some coffee, and just took it easy for the day.

Now today is his actual birthday. No plans yet other then an a really good americano and the traditional lasagna birthday dinner. It's his birthday so we will do as he wishes.

Happy Birthday my love!!!🎂🎈🎉
