Sunday Happy

December 13, 2020 Colleen Stem

Where did all the snow go? It was so lovely for a good part of the week and then bam, woke up and it was gone. And way to freaking warm. BOOOO. That was even worse then no snow. It just needs to snow and stay put and stop being warm. I hate global warming. So. Much.

The week was good, if not a bit hectic. Started off with the mr and I going over to the loft and having Christmas craft time and decorated her tree. I brought her all of my old ornaments and we made yarn garland and listen to Christmas music and it was just the best. And now Gigi has a brand new tree full of all the toys she could possible want to climb and destroy. She was chewing on the lights even before they were on the tree so yeah, not worries at all…

After that it was a good few days of me being busy busy, trying to finishing up some pots and dropping pieces off to people who bought them. I am getting ready for the last little push before Christmas and am trying to not let it stress me out.

Thursday, December 10th. One of my favorite days of the year because it is the day the mr was born. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOVE! Because of COVID we didn’t do his traditional grilled cheese party which was sad (next year its on!) but we did have a lovely day. He woke up to strong man and a balloon (plus all his favorite breakfast things). Then after a lazy morning we drove to a little mountain and climbed it in the snow. After that he went off to do some plant stuff while I made a cake and lasagna. Barb and him then came home and we had dinner, cake to the tune of KPOP singers singing happy birthday in Korean, and ended the day watching Home Alone and me falling asleep on the couch. All in all, I think he had a good day.

And that is it. Not much else other then us trying to finish and get the last of the Christmas cards made and out in the mail. That and I bit a hole in my tongue (it was brutal) and have developed a very curious, if not concerning squeak in my big toe. Feels and sounds like walking on snow…. Yup. And that is that. Just busy busy and maybe a little boring. And old? Haha, a little.

Today involves a mad dash to the studio to glaze the for the last time before Christmas. After that, the mr and I are going to go for a drive/hike somewhere and then maybe come home and finally put the decorations on the tree. We have been slacking hard on tree decoctions this year. The rest of the house looks A+, but there is something so magical about a tree with just lights so I haven’t felt the need to decorate it. But I finally want to so tonight, we will, maybe.

Anyone else wake up wondering what time it was or what day, month, and or year it was for that matter? The time change happened last night so if you have a clock without smarts, well it is probably wrong if you haven’t changed it yet. As for the overall feel of time this year, well I feel like lengths of time have been displaced and lost this year so it is nice to get an hour back, even if I lost 6 months. HA!

We finished of the last week with the last days of October, and it was good. Did out last hurrah camping at Little River State park which was delightfully cold and gorgeous with very few people to be seen. We went for a long hike, ate hot pumpkin lentil soup, and spent a good amount of time sitting by the fire trying not to burn our faces off but trying to get close enough to not be freezing. Once the fire went down we crawled into the tent for bed and slept our last night outside. Then we woke up, I made the coffee, and we broke down camp for the last time. On our way out of the park, we noticed a lot of tiny leaves falling from the trees only to realize that it was not leaves, but snow! Within 5 minutes it went from flurries to a freaking blizzard and it was just AMAZING and I loved every bit of it. The mr, not so much. He isn’t ready for the cold.

Then back to it. The mr off on one of his many projects he has going on and I spent a good amount of time in the studio. We took Barb to look at used cars (no car yet), and I picked up the last summer farm share. (Winter share starts next week..phew!) And yes, we finally turned the heat on, although I think I could do without it for a little while longer. I prefer the heat of a thousand sweaters. HA!

And then all of a sudden it was Halloween. How was your Halloween? Ours was weird. We somehow forgot to carve pumpkins this year (I know we are not the only ones) and we knew we weren’t taking the littles out. We also decided against handing out candy cause well, you know. So instead we had the littles over and had a cookie decorating party. We ate lunch then let them get all sugared up and run around like animals all afternoon which is always a good time. Plus they still got a shit ton of candy and did so without all the work. So yeah, things weren’t bad for the littles this year. What was bad was the crazy ass mess they left me with. I know I have bitched about this before but, How the hell do they get sprinkles and frosting on EVERYTHING? There was even frosting all over the toilet. One thing I did learn though this cookie party is to never let them use tiny colored dusting sugar ever ever again. That shit spreads like fire.

Sunday. Welp, we are not camping (I’m feeling sad about it) but hopefully we are going to get out of town for a hot minute and walk into some woods. I know that the mr has a bunch of things he has to to today so I will probably be on my own for most of of the day. Not going to lie, I am kind of looking forward to it. I think I am going to grab a cozy sweater and a blanket, lots of hot coffee, and plop down on the porch and read for a while. Going for the next best thing. And hey, we are still going to eat pumpkin lentil stew for dinner so there is that.

One more thing…Make sure, if you haven’t yet, you get your ass out there and VOTE!!!!!!!!!

Sunday Happy

September 13, 2020 Colleen Stem

The week started off with the normal. Hiking up a mountain in our old college stomping grounds, kayaking, the mr fished while I read, then we camped for the night. A packed day of outdoor recreation that was very much needed and appreciated. Then the next day we went home and the mr dyed Judahs hair or half of it at least, bright ass pink. The kid started fifth grade the following day so we figured what the hell, might as well make it awesome. I wish I had pink hair in fifth grade.

After that, nothing to outlandish. I stopped to say hi to the bean and see her new glasses. Went for a hike with Megan and worked at the studio. I went for a bike ride picnic with the mr, we finally fixed the fridge for sure, and had dinner at moms to celebrate Marks zoom college celebration graduation thing (even though her graduated months ago). A recurring theme of the week has been me lossing/leaving my phone in unknown places. It has happened more times then I can count. My memory and mind are on the fritz right now. But the weather… The weather here in Vermont has been just the best! There was a frost warning, I have warn a sweater or two, and have been eating pumpkin everyday. This is exactly why I love living in Vermont.

I am more excited about camping tonight then ever. Emerald Lake State Park. It is going to be chilly, it’s getting dark out earlier, and there is always way less people around after Labor Day so hopefully we won’t have to see(or hear) anyone. We got a good hike maped out, a lake to kayak in, and a pumpkin to eat for dinner. We sure know how to live. HAHA!

Sunday Happy

August 30, 2020 Colleen Stem

It has been a weird week. Not bad, I just feel really off. I think the feels are catching up with me a bit.

Went camping at the start of the week, and that was, as always the highlight and, as always. we were sad to leave. But we did and back to life we came.We both have been busy, doing what we needed to do. I got a lot done in my studio, went back to work for the first time at the studio I work at. and loaded more stuff into the kiln at another different studio. A studio heavy week. Also trying to get stuff done around the house, harvesting and processing all the food from the farm and garden, and to remember to pay the taxes! ( I need to do that, like NOW) . But yeah, just have had a touch the blahs. But hey, I picked up my knitting again so that is good, and the weather has been great around here, which makes me happy but also makes me sad for the rest of the country that has had to deal with heat and hurricanes and fires.

Meh.

I am ok. You ok? We are ok.

And it is Sunday which always makes me happy. Off to camp today and this time we are bring the littles and Barb and oh boy, what are we in for? We have camped with the littles before, but this year they are older, one has her face constantly glued to her cell phone and has been know to be a little, lets say, moody? And we have to share tents. And they are monsters that stay awake past 8 pm. (I will leave the task of staying awake with them to the mr and Barb. HA!) But other then that, it’s going to be so much fun. They have fishing to do, I have books, and it’s gonna be a cool rainless day. Can’t ask for much more. Hopefully I have everything we need. I have been packing all week, making homemade graham crackers, rolling up  extra sleeping pads, and buying 5 different bags of chips while cutting up all the veggies I can fit into a cooler. I think they are really excited which makes me excited too. One last big hurrah before school starts for Barb tomorrow and the little next week.

Wish us luck!

Sunday Happy

August 23, 2020 Colleen Stem

And so another week has gone by. Can you actually believe that it is the end of August? I was just talking to someone about how this summer doesn’t even seem like it happened, like the past few months have just slipped on by without notice. That is exactly how I feel, like it just slipped on by...

The week, it was a good one. Camping at our first state park of the year, which I was a little nervous about due to the fact that there are like other people around, but it was good. We barely saw another person and that was when we walked through the campground and they were in their sites. And the camping was great. We kayaked, hiked, I read a lot and I even got a little chilly and had to sleep kinda in my sleeping bag. Love me some chilly camping, it is the best!

Then we came home and did the week like usual. The mr went back to working like a mad man, I unload some stuff form a glaze firing, made dinner at Barbs, tried to get organized for things to come, and got excited and made a bunch of dog/cat food bowls. And again, I realized that it was almost the end of the month so I better get my ass in high gear and get things ready to update the store page to sell some shit. Keep your eyes open for that fun!  I also had lunch with Megan and the kids, starting harvesting all the tomatoes from the garden, and have eaten an entire watermelon to myself in like 2 days. Oh, and Judah and I made dinner for everyone while the mr took Miley and Barbara fishing. He asked me to teach him how to cook so I let him pick what he wanted to make for our first cooking lessons. He choose scrambled eggs and wow, he made them like a boss. Next week he wants to make cookies. (of course).

Today the mr and I are doing the same as every Sunday; grabbing the camping stuff, tossing the kayaks into the truck, and picking all the cucumber and zucchinis in the garden to eat by the fire tonight. Sure it is suppose to rain a little bit today but I could give a fuck less. We look forward to these days all week. Rain ain’t no thing!
