Sunday Happy

February 14, 2021 Colleen Stem
IMG_0389.jpg

Happy Sunday! Another week gone by and we are just living it the best we can. I don’t know about you but I love me some mid February vibes. It’s not usually terribly cold (well, not usually. It was freaking -15 again for a few days..) but February winter is good winter. There is snow on the ground, days on and off of gloom and sun, and the light is getting just a bit longer and stonger every day. There is also the anticipation of spring to come soon (in like 2 months) and that is one of the best things about the seasons, that they change! Plus this is the time of the year that I start thinking about the garden and what to plant and getting all the things ready. So yeah, love me some February!

Again another week flew on by. I went for a couple hikes, one with the mr and one with Megans and So. Barb and I walked all the neighborhoods and I keep on feeding her face. I also did a lot of glazing, sold offf mugs, and over all did a bunch of studio work. We had the littles over for pizza night and to play with those spinning things that I can’t seem to remember the names of (busty blades?) I also busted the sewing machine out to sew a heart on a sweater and to make Barb a new neck warmer (pictured above). And I made soooo much bread, a cute ass cake with hearts, and manage to keep the tip of my nose from completely falling off even though the skin had been peeling off. Definitely got frost bite. Anyways, not much of the super exciting, just plugging away at life, drinking lots of water, organizing that papers, doing the stuff.

Back to Sunday and Happy Valentines Day to those who celebrate it! The mr and I always do but not with gifts or flowers and definitely not with fancy dinners and shit. No, we always just make sure that we get to spend the day together, not bickering, and do something fun. And yes, there are hearts involved but that is not just a Valentines day thing for us (we have hearts all over the house). So today being that is is Sunday AND Valentines Day, we are doing our usually and going for a good hike, getting coffee, and chilling out a bit but then we decided we will eat dinner at the table and not the kitchen island. That is romance right there. HAHA! And then maybe we will try to watch a movie together ( I say try because I will probably fall asleep on the couch by 8). Nothing fancy, just quality time with my love and that what Valentines Day is all about.

Stuff from the internet.

I don’t understand why there has to be so much shit to recycle in the first place. I guess I don’t understand a lot of things. Companies are failing to do this one simple thing that could boost recycling

-Michelle Obama’s ‘Waffles + Mochi,’ a Culinary Kids Show, Will Premiere March 16 on Netflix. I am here for this. Don’t even care that it is a kids show.

-This is really cool. I wish I could see it for reals. More my speed then a ton of drunk people throwing shit at me. HA! 'Float houses' are popping up all over New Orleans for Mardi Gras 2021:

Sunday Happy

November 1, 2020 Colleen Stem

Anyone else wake up wondering what time it was or what day, month, and or year it was for that matter? The time change happened last night so if you have a clock without smarts, well it is probably wrong if you haven’t changed it yet. As for the overall feel of time this year, well I feel like lengths of time have been displaced and lost this year so it is nice to get an hour back, even if I lost 6 months. HA!

We finished of the last week with the last days of October, and it was good. Did out last hurrah camping at Little River State park which was delightfully cold and gorgeous with very few people to be seen. We went for a long hike, ate hot pumpkin lentil soup, and spent a good amount of time sitting by the fire trying not to burn our faces off but trying to get close enough to not be freezing. Once the fire went down we crawled into the tent for bed and slept our last night outside. Then we woke up, I made the coffee, and we broke down camp for the last time. On our way out of the park, we noticed a lot of tiny leaves falling from the trees only to realize that it was not leaves, but snow! Within 5 minutes it went from flurries to a freaking blizzard and it was just AMAZING and I loved every bit of it. The mr, not so much. He isn’t ready for the cold.

Then back to it. The mr off on one of his many projects he has going on and I spent a good amount of time in the studio. We took Barb to look at used cars (no car yet), and I picked up the last summer farm share. (Winter share starts next week..phew!) And yes, we finally turned the heat on, although I think I could do without it for a little while longer. I prefer the heat of a thousand sweaters. HA!

And then all of a sudden it was Halloween. How was your Halloween? Ours was weird. We somehow forgot to carve pumpkins this year (I know we are not the only ones) and we knew we weren’t taking the littles out. We also decided against handing out candy cause well, you know. So instead we had the littles over and had a cookie decorating party. We ate lunch then let them get all sugared up and run around like animals all afternoon which is always a good time. Plus they still got a shit ton of candy and did so without all the work. So yeah, things weren’t bad for the littles this year. What was bad was the crazy ass mess they left me with. I know I have bitched about this before but, How the hell do they get sprinkles and frosting on EVERYTHING? There was even frosting all over the toilet. One thing I did learn though this cookie party is to never let them use tiny colored dusting sugar ever ever again. That shit spreads like fire.

Sunday. Welp, we are not camping (I’m feeling sad about it) but hopefully we are going to get out of town for a hot minute and walk into some woods. I know that the mr has a bunch of things he has to to today so I will probably be on my own for most of of the day. Not going to lie, I am kind of looking forward to it. I think I am going to grab a cozy sweater and a blanket, lots of hot coffee, and plop down on the porch and read for a while. Going for the next best thing. And hey, we are still going to eat pumpkin lentil stew for dinner so there is that.

One more thing…Make sure, if you haven’t yet, you get your ass out there and VOTE!!!!!!!!!

Sunday Happy

July 19, 2020 Colleen Stem

The mr and I just got back home from the night in the woods. Random woods camping. Never a disappointment, always a good time, and free. Free and no people. What more can you ask for?

And so my brain, as per usual after a good night of camping, is a little on the “why did we come back to civilization?” side. I am unfocused and a little tired and smell like dirt and sweat. On that note, I give you what I have from the week, which is not a lot at the moment. It know it was decent but not very eventful. We did some stuff, worked on things, moved around this and that, and ate food. I could give you more details but I don’t really have the energy to remember them so 🤷‍♀️. Then yesterday we went into the woods to hike and sleep and had us a 100% perfect time far and away from people and things.

Now we are back home because we had to come back (the mr has some work things needing to be done today). I think after I am done writing this I should jump into the shower to wash the smell the pee off my feet. Then I need to water the plants, drink lots of water, and get ready for the 100 plus degree day that is laying ahead. I don’t exactly know what I am going to be doing today but I am already pissed off just thinking about how hot I am going to be. Maybe I will just lay in the shade with the sprinkler cascading on my body or just hide away in the basement and read. You know what I do know? I know that 100 degrees is just stupid.

-The End of Minimalism. Keeping a cluttered house has long been considered a little tacky, a little weak. But now it’s looking very wise. Interesting take on having lots of stuff, but I still hate having stuff!

-The mr and I were doing school stuff with the littles and it was a pain I the ass. And they might not be going back, or at least full time, for a while. Mayne this might be a good time to try this. The case for unschooling, because honestly I feel like the last semester was kind of bullshit and they really didn’t learn anything.

Sunday Happy

May 31, 2020 Colleen Stem

Well spring didn't last all that long. Sure technically it is not summer yet but you wouldn’t know it by the weather. A bunch of 90 freaking stupid degree days. So gross. How do people like that? Seriously, how?

The week. Started off with a picnic and a little fishing for the mr and Judah. After that I took the littles for a bike ride to my moms for bbq. Sure I fell off my bike and ripped all the skin of my elbow, but other then that, it was a good ride. We hung out in the backyard, ate food, I gave Mark and Paul haircuts (I am now the family barber. Not sure how that happened. And no one pays me.), and let my mom clean out my bloody wounds and bandage me up. All and all, good good.

The rest of the week consisted of the usual, or what is now my usual life. Hanging with the little doing homework, cleaning rooms, feeding their faces. Lots of outdoor stuff. I worked in the garden and I busted my ass pretty hard falling down a steep hill on a hike ( huge ass bruise on my ass). Top it off with a my first few mosqutio bites and I am just sore all over. We had rain for the first time in like a month so that was terrific. And maybe the best part of the weeks was when my mailman found out I was vegan and asked if I wanted him to stop placing Burger King and Mcdonalds flyers in the mail box. And all junk mail for that matter. Isn’t that freaking fantastic? My mailman, he really is the best.

And the fridge. Still not functioning right. We replaced a part. It wasn’t the problem so we have to try and replace one more part. If that doesn’t fix it , well then…………

Back to Sunday. The mr and I are going to pick up a really old, but functional. little fridge today. Something to store food in until we get the part that hopefully gets the real fridge back up and running. After we get the fridge, we will probably go for a little hike, the mr might fish, I will read, which reminds me. I was able to pick up 4 new books from my library, curbside, this week. I haven’t been able to get new books for like 2 months. Out of all the things I missed before quarantine, going to the library is the thing I miss the most so I am really happy to be able to get books again!

-I Have a “Quarantine Bubble” With People Outside My House. You Should Too. Are you part of a bubble? We are in a family bubble but whats knew?

-How community fridges are fixing a broken food system. The mr has been working with a local charity and making these amazing little making food pantries and installing them all over the city. What a guy, right!

-Ok so I hate ceiling fans because they are ugly, but I do understand they are very functional. The mr wants to put one in the bedroom. I am slightly coming around to the idea, but only if I find one that I like. So far I have seen this one and this one. Still not sold though

-What Are Capers, Anyways? Adult knowledge

-So my gym (the YMCA) is opening up next week and if you were to ask ANYONE that knows me or works there, they would say I would be the first person at the door when it opens. Well guess what? Sunday Happy

May 3, 2020 Colleen Stem
IMG_5007.jpg

Can you actually believe that it is May? It still seems unreal to me. But you know what is so real right now? Spring. IT is so so so amazing out, like the best. Some rainy days and some sunshine and warmth, green stuff everywhere. Flowers, cut grass, gardening..I have been pretty stinking happy.

Another week gone by week. So many walks, hikes, and bike ride.(The mr and I are the officially the family outdoor motivators. Who doesn’t want to hang out with us?) Our first walk of the week was with Barb, Cam, and Jackson. We strolled to the lake, screwed around for a while, Jack meditated on driftwood in the water then fell in. Went back to the house where I proceeded to give Jackson my first haircut of the week and I did an ok job, especially because I was actually fixing the hack job of a cut he tried to give himself. Ha. The next day I went over to Erins and proceeded to give the second haircut of the week to Coco. That went alight, I just gave him a cookie and hacked away. Again, not bad considering he was fidgeting and kind of screaming at me the whole time.

After that the week was full of more hiking, another round of cupcake baking this time with So Bean, paperwork up the butt, and research on tires and cellphones. Blah. I hate shopping research. Oh and the parking lot. Need an idea for something to do with some littles, Find a vacant parking lot, get a bouncy ball, and let it rip. The mr and I took Judah and Coco to the empty school lot and spent almost an hour chasing around a freaking tiny bouncy ball. It was the highlight of all our week. That and the long phone conversation I had with a cop about Mark. Mark is officially a college grad (I know, CRAZY!) And has basically been hired to be a state trooper (so many Super Trooper jokes) She called just to talk about what kind of person he is and to make sure he hasn’t murdered anyone. To bad I told her he is just a fucker and should not be hired to police ANYBODY HA! Just kidding, I made him sound even better then he really is. HAHAHA.

So yeah, other then that, nothing to crazy. Just staying sane with lots of running, biking, a little work in the studio, gardening, and making sick playlists on Spotify. Oh, and I gave my third haircut of the week to myself. I was in the kitchen cutting up rhubarb with the kitchen scissors and the urge hit. Gathered my hair into a bunch and just snipped a few haggard inches off… Not my best work but I don’t really give a shit. 😁

Today the mr and I are leaving super early for a hiking/fishing excursion, then we are going to check out Shannon and her mans house that is under construction. We need to make it back in town to do a few errands and to go check on the littles. Plus I really want to spend at least an hour in the backyard getting all the dirt under my fingernails. Going to cram as much stuff into the day as we can.
