Sunday Happy

The leaves are finally changing, the weather is finally kind of cooling off, and I am finally getting a chance to wear a few of my fall sweaters that I pilled out a month ago and have basically neglected because it has been way to freaking warm out.  (and there is still some people that think global warmer is fake) Worst part is I have been holding off on pumpkin picking just because it hasn't felt right. I need a cool overcast day for it to work for me. Be cool, be dreary, I need a pumpkin!

This week didn't exactly turn out as it was suppose to. It started out strong with knocking out doctors appointments, having dinner and doing laundry at Shannon's, the mr even halfway cleaned out one of the barns. But when it came to getting any work done on the house, not so much. We were suppose to start tiling the bathroom but lucky us, the tile that we have and thought we were going to use, well we don't have enough if it. And  it's no where to be found so we had to go back to figuring  out what to use for tile. We figured it out but now we need to buy it  and blah blah blah. Long story shore, the bathroom is still not done and I really miss having two toilets in the house.(especially when the little are over) The upside of this week was that we ended up spending a good amount of time hiking and doing things outside. I even started peeing outside (haha, mot really but I have thought about it)

Yesterday the  mr and tried our hands at bird watching. There was an article in the paper about snow geese and how there is this spot out in Addison that thousands of these  geese come and rest on their journey south. We decided that it is time we harness our inner bird watchers and made the journey to that field. And bummer, no geese in sight. We spent a good long hour waiting, then did a little hiking through some woods (got scared away by hunters)  in search od the geese, but no real luck. We did get to see a handful flying around in circles, but unlike all of the other seasoned birdwatchers we saw (we saw a lot) we did not have binoculars. That was a good lesson for next time, and yes, there will be a next time. I think it might be my calling in life. Watching birds. Sounds so simple and so good.

Today I hope to get some major things done, mainly birthday present making and cleaning out the freezer for the birthday cake  Barbs turning 18 this week!!! and (of course she wants an ice cream cake... I don't know what I am going to do with all the frozen tomatoes) Also probably going to make another loaf of squash bread because the littles are coming over for dinner and I want to stink up the house all nice and good. And coffee. So much. I spent all week only drinking one cup a day (acid reflux flare up) so i need to catch upon my caffeine intake.

Sunday Happy

May 14, 2017 Colleen Stem

First off, the Happiest Day to all the mothers out there. You are great and make the world possible so thank you for that. Take care today to you. We are all better off when you are happy or to quote a sign hanging in my moms kitchen..When Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

Whoa did we spend a lot of time outside this week. The mr upin the trees cutting them down. Weeding out gardens and cleaning up lawns. So many trips to the wood chipping plant to get ride of all the wood. My arms have been sore all week and it's mostly from hauling large chunks of wood to the truck. That and all the dirt moving. 6 yards of dirt dropped off to fill up our raised beds. The garden is on it's way to being a real garden and I couldn't be any happier. First time in my life where I have had a yard with a garden to do what I please. It's freaking amazing. And now I am struggling with what to plant. I know that I will get a butt load of veggies form the farm but what do I want more of? Lots of greens are on their way and we need to have tomatoes but do I do an entire bed of carrots and beets? If so where while the husk cherries go?. And the pumpkins, should we just plant them out front? (the mr wants to turn the front lawn into a pumpkin patch. I am not entirely sure that is a good idea) So many things to consider.

Sunday has got me busy. I want to finish planting what needs planting, the laundry is backed up a few loads so I need to get on that and I have a mess of paperwork that I need to get through. Good day for it though cause it looks like a chilly rain today so hanging out on the back porch with my pile of crap won't be so bad. At least there will be lots of coffee.

It's been a busy week. So much snow followed by so much shoveling, long waits in lobbies and doctors offices, and the head pressure that comes with drastic up and down weather. It flew in fast and finished hard and now I need a break.

The snow. So amazing an beautiful. It's been a couple of years sense we got a really good dumping around here and I have really missed it. But one thing became clear with all the snow. The mr and I are not spring chickens anymore and a day of shoveling really kicks our butts. I think that this is the last year that we are going to be hand shoveling the 4 driveways and either get a snow blower or just hire a plow. I don't mind a good shovel session but it gets old when you have to do it multiple times in multiple locations when all you really want to do is make snow angels and build a snow castle.  We did make it out into the woods for our Valentines Day snowshoe which was fantastic as any day spent in the woods is. Nothing beatsa warm sunny day after a good foot of freshly fallen show.

And now it's basically summer, all the snow is melting and all I can think about is mud, longer days, and all the seeds I want to order. I am getting the spring bug.

Plans for today include not having plans besides being outside. Going to let the day do what it's going to do and just enjoy it.

Short of the long... I am trashed. We just got back from a 6 1/2 hour drive from the Poconos where I now have a sweet ass new summertime home in the woods (actually not mine, but my dad just bought a house and moved there so it's pretty much mine..haha)  Summer fun time all the time long. A short few days for an initial, get to know the place and see the new house, go hiking, biking, more hiking, and basically run around and play with the dogs and the neighborhood deer, visit. It was an all out exhausting, amazing time. (I would tell you more about it, but right now my mind is mush I I am surprised Ian even type right now)  So now we are back home to maybe get a few hours of sleep and then back to the house for few hours of work. Got to get ready for the boom truck of a million pieces of sheet rock that are coming in the morning!

Now I am really, really freaking tired and need to like, for real, sleep for a bit before I keel over. Oh thanks the world for coffee cause today is going to be a couple pot of coffee kind of day. Wish me luck.

We are moving into the house!!! Oh wait, no we are not, at least not for real, but we are thinking about setting up the tent and sleeping in the yard for a while. It's summer and it's been so freaking hot and why the hell not right?

And to prolong our move in date some more, the mr and I have decided to re-floor the entire downstairs. HA! We figured we kinda wanted to but weren't really sure if we should. And so we said screw it, lets just do it now and get it over with. So keep that in mind if you offer to help cause we might just take you up on it.

Other then house stuff, the week has been full of all the little littles, birthday parties, flowers, and tomatoes! The farm started dishing out the fattest, juiciest, most lovely tomatoes. I have found myself on a few occasions devouring whole tomatoes by accident, like i look at them and just need to eat them. (they take away my will power) Thinking I might have to make a cake with a few of the this week (if i don't eat them all) and frost them all twirly, whirly sparkly like the cupcakes that I made this week, (they looked so awesome)  I think the mr would like that.

But for today, no baking. I would actually like to stay away from anything that creates heat (besides coffee) because it is finally not so hot and humid and my brain needs time to reform from the melt. We will probably just go floor shopping (blah) but that way I can ride with windows down and my head sticking out of the window like a dog. Fun fun.
