Sunday Happy

March 29, 2020 Colleen Stem
IMG_4192.jpg

The past week was a blur.

A friend sent me a meme the other day that really hit home for me. It said “I wish this would all be over so everyone would just leave me the fuck alone” Yup.

And a few days ago I accidentally dropped my new toothbrush into toilet. But I am ok. And in case you are wondering, I had a new toothbrush on standby so my teeth are ok too.

How are you holding up? Going crazy? Are you getting shit done? Are you loving it or hating it? Or are you just getting use to it but then freaking out about how use to it you are getting? That last is me. Usually what happens is I will be feeling calm and fine but then I will read or hear something totally fucked on the news (I listen to NPR for most of the day so it’s my own damn fault but I have been switching my listening habits to mostly music or podcasts. I have made some pretty sick quarentine playlists for sure.) and the emotions go haywire again. But I think mostly, for me, I am just feeling kind of, well I don’t know, wonky? Itchy? Irritable? All of the above, plus a little scared, sad, and crazy. But also happy, grateful, and calm. So many feelings and I am not good with a lot of feels at once. Thats it! I am a EMOTIONALLY OVERLOADED!

Anyway, the weather, so nice! Good thing to because besides taking the littles almost everyday out for their daily hikes, or being able to walk around the block with my mom (10 feet apart), either the mr or I might end this thing living up in the tree house. Hahaha. No, we are so good, we just have our moments that may or may not end in obscene hand gestures and lots a vomit. 😁 But seriously, the tree house. It’s our contingency plan. The mr has spent a fair amount of time up there carving spoons or just sitting, just to give me space. (he is so nice!) And I have discovered the amazingness of headphones. I don’t usually have a need to wear them but this week I busted out an old pair and realized how amazing it is to not hear anything other then music. Really loud music. It’s like being alone. Ah, the small things.

Today. Sunday, in case you were wondering. It is not a great day for me. It’s 4 years ago that Sean died so I am emotional and cranky and blah. So what I am going to do is go for a run, call my mom, text all my siblings that I love them and then tell everyone to leave me the fuck alone. The mr and I are going to take a drive, find some woods where I can be with no one else around hide away for a while. Then we need to go grocery shopping. I am down to my last serving of carrots and ran out of my St Patricks day stash of cabbage. I am really hoping people have calmed the fuck down and haven’t emptied the produce section by the time I get there. I will lose my shit if I can’t get some carrots. Not today. Just have the fucking carrots.

Sunday Happy

March 8, 2020 Colleen Stem

I think this might be the week. The week were I take off the down comforter from the bed, wash all of my winter hats and mittens and pack them away, and stick the snow shovels back uderneath the back porch. After this past week of warmish spring weather I am calling it. I am now pretty much officially over winter. Bring on the sandals, the open windows, the leaving the house with our layer after layer! Every year I forget how much I love spring until we get a little spring weather and then I remember how glorious it is. Don’t get me wrong, I have lived in VT my whole life and know that there is bound to be at least one more snow storm but whatever, it won’t last long so pack up winter I will and into spring mode I go!

So a good week weather wise. And life wise it wasn’t bad either. The mr and I got out of town and checked out some land (no go). We voted like good citizens then got rid of the Christmas tree that had been frozen in the front lawn for the past 3 months. I went to the dentist and received all the praise for very clean teeth and walked out with lots of free dental floss because I floss A LOT. Went for lots of walks whenever I could. Went over to have dinner at moms. Spent a good amount of time in the studios. Picked up farm share and almost got the car stuck in a mud pit but didn’t so that was a win. And I replaced the nasty ass shower curtains in the shower. Plus good on me, I even made a dent in the pile of paperwork I am currently going thought for the taxes. I have been so productive and accomplished. Its a great feeling. I owe it all to the windows being open and all the fresh air. And coffee. I have been drinking a shit ton of coffee this week but I guess what’s new?

Oh an I almost forgot, my website to buy pottery is up!!!!! Started small and simple so there are only a few mugs up as of now, but I am planning on doing a big shop update with lots more in the next few weeks. Until then, at least it exists for real now. And if you need a mug, go here. stem+node.

Today I am going to try not to think to much about what time it is because daylight savings (did you remember that?). Every year I do it, play that game about how yesterday it was an hour earlier and what time is it really when I need to just forget about it and adjust accordingly. It’s just hard when your body is on one schedule and your brain is on another. But other then that, just going to stop in and hang with the little for a bit, maybe go for a nice long walk, and then do some chores that need doing that I am not looking forward to. Or not. I might just skip that last part and sit on the front porch and read all afternoon…. Tough call here but I have a feeling the porch might win out, at least for some portion of that day.

Wholly Guacamole is it really March? The passing of time can really mess with my brain. I swear it’s still like 1998 and I should be wearing baggy jeans with my portable CD player, listening to Hanson, on my way to soccer practice. But no. Now I am sitting here, looking at pictures of all the littles who are growing oh so fast, waiting for the coffee to be brewed so I can go on being a functioning adult and shit. And now it’s a new month with new bills and taxes are due soon so I better get on that. But hey, that is life right?

The past week. It came and it went. We were busy busy with all the normal stuff. The littles are all out of school for vacation so we saw them a good amount, had a couple sleep overs, did the usual there. We had dinner with Mom, had coffee over at Barbs, I finally took the Christmas lights down off the front porch, and now I want to rip my entire house apart, repaint, and put to all back together. (I am getting the spring cleaning bug.) I spent a lot of my time working on pieces here at home and at the studio that will be for sale soon and yes, the website is done, just not live yet. I just need to figure out the glitchy PayPal crap (I am such a slow poke), so by Wednesday, by Wednesday for sure it will be up and running?!!!

Anyway, how was your week? Did you enjoy your extra day of the year or did you not even realize that we had that extra day this month? Me, I didn’t take the day as anything extra, but I did think a lot about how when I was a little kid I wished that I was born on leap day and that those people who were born on leap day were somehow extra special. I mean, how cool would it be to have a birthday once every four years? If it were me, I would totally have the best birthday celebrations on those years. Then the other years when the day doesn’t exist, I could just pretend I don’t have a birthday and I could just hide away as usual. HA.

Today both the mr and I have a few things we need to do but then we are going to take off for a few hours, find a place to eat lunch out in the wild and try to go for a hike of some sort. I am craving solitude and trees and by dang it, I will find it. Also I think today calls for a lot of coffee because I am just want to drink all the coffee in the world, all the time. I woke up with my mouth watering just thinking about it.

What happened to all the trolls? I was never a big collector of any specific toy, like I was not into barbie dolls or anything, but I do remember really being into trolls for a hot minute. I think it was the crazy colored hair and the being naked and all. Troll style is definitely life goals when I am old. Running around naked with purple hair. Sounds good right?

How was your week? My week came and went by really fast. Not a lot happened other then the usual work/life stuff. I did get the brakes done on the car. Woot woot. And I have been trying to spend more time working on pots and accomplish my goal to have my stem+node website up and running by today. But guess what, not quite there yet. Next week for sure, but honestly, I am just getting little gun shy about it. Don’t really know why, or I do, but whatever. Next week, which was the date I told myself I would have it done by for sure. So yeah.

Anyways, not much thought the week. Friday, after I got out of work, Miley and Judah came over for a sleep over. It was planned all week. Sophia was suppose to sleep over too but she ended up being sick so down to the other two. Then Judah ditched us after dinner to go see a stupid movies so it was just us and Miley. And that was fun except I guess the mr and I are not very interesting to an almost 13 year old girl. Long story short, she basically ignored us until we took her to the mall. (I know, but it was the better of her two options. I couldn’t go to the movies) After that she then went back to ignoring us. Good times. We did go up to the hospital to visit with Coco who is back at the hospital again (poor freaking kiddo) and the mr finally cleaned out the car!. And that’s that and wow I feel lame. HA

You didn’t forget what today is right?

It’s Groundhog Day! Duh. A super great, super awesome, just a super super duper day. And that is all I care about in terms of super things today because super anything else is just not the kind of super I am into. Ha!

Everything this week has flown by in a blur. I feel like everyday I have been really busy running around, going to banks, DMV-ing, stores, and packaging sending places. A bit of this, a bit of that, and all the other life chores coming at me. Plus I have been getting ready to start selling my stuff at an art market so I have busy busy trying to gather my stuff, finish pieces, and make it look like I am legitimate and know a little of what I am doing. (Not an easy task.) The mr has been super busy running around doing small work projects for people all week but in between all that, he still has managed to help me out so so much. He built me a crazy rocking cool display for my rainbows, helped me with business card, and has just been a overall support for my crazy lady shelf, even when I am being an asshole. (He is the best!) And to top it all off, I have had a low grade ick that just is barely there but is there and is driving me nuts. One day my head hurts, the next my throat, and now it is my ears and throat. Grrr. But I am not going to complain too much. It could be worse.

Besides feeling slightly hectic and busy, we did manage a dinner night with my mom, Paul, and Barb. That night was memorable due to the fact that I might have accidentally, but on purpose, spilled a very large glass of water directly into the mr’s lap for reasons that had to do with carrots. He has not let me forget what I did all week but I do not regret my actions. I take my carrots very seriously. Haha. We also had the littles over for dinner and I damn near had to pry their little hands aways from the electronics they came over attached to. That was a bitch of battle and for anyone needing to know for future reference, my house is now a ZERO hand held computer apparatus space. No iPads or phones or video game shit. Only real life fun times.

I can’t think of much more then that, other then being extremely disappointed in the weather. And now the week is over.

Today is the day. Gonna be wheeling and dealing my wares. 11-3, at the art market at 2creativecommuinty in Winooski. Come on by, say hey hey hey, and check out and maybe buy some cool art!
