Sunday Happy

December 27, 2015 Colleen Stem

Hey there people. How's your weekend going? Did you have yourself a very merry Christmas full of all things happy? Are you spending the weekend chilling out or have you already tossed the tree and are now in the process of vacuuming up needles that will linger for the next 3 months? (Our tree stays until new years)

Christmas was good over here (even if it was near tropical). Lots of fun family fun. Ice skating, dinner, secret santa swap (I got the best set of vintage pyres mixing bowls.. thanks Barb!). The mr and I did our traditional stockings ( I got him fly fishing stuff and fruit smelling markers. He got me a bunch of apples and a wood caving book with tools and wood to carve me me some spoons!!!) We did a little relaxing, i did a bunch of baking, and everyone was pretty happy. All 22 of us were together at the same time (minus my dad.... we missed my dad) and not a single fight or accidental kick to the face or crying over broken toys. It was pretty great.

But here is the question on everyone's mind. Who got a hover board?

Then comes the aftermath. I spent yesterday kinda half cleaning form the Christmas mess and half napping while hacking my lungs out. We were suppose to go to my nephews b day party, but I felt like crap and completely lost my voice. Whenever I did try to talk nothing came out and my vocal cords felt like they were set on fire.  And I was not about to walk into a room of littles and people that want to talk. No on list of things I could handle. (Being able to cry fro help when kids are beating you up is key to survival) So no party and no talking from me. But the mr, he couldn't stop talking and asking me questions.(which I responded through eye rolls and thumbs) I think he really enjoys me being quite. So yeah, I am stupid sick. I'm not sure if this is a crash and burn sicky or I just picked something up from one of the littles who bring home their nastys. Whatever it is, I need to kick it today cause tomorrow we are starting to sheet rock the ceiling at the new house. (sheet rocking ceilings totally sucks ass!)  And the holidays are not over and I am trying to ride the rest of the week on the holiday high, hopefully unsick. Got to get my party pants on for New Years (my party pants are my pj pants) We are gonna have a movie marathon and probably fall asleep on the couch by 10, Go us! 2016 what! Can't even right now.

Sunday Happy

AAAaahhh!!! It Worked !!. My wax paper snowflakes to the gods sent us some real, bona-fied snow.. like 2 whole freaking inches. I was so excited when saw it at 430 am this morning that I even woke up the mr to make hii come look..("Oh, cool.. now let me sleep!") I finally feel like the black whole inside of me has been filled, and it's filled with fluffy white snow. Aah. I feel normal again.  ( I will not think about the fact that it still suppose to be in the upper 50's on Christmas)

On that note, oh shit yes. It is indeed Christmas in 5 freaking days. How did that happen, I can not tell you, but what it more crazy is that this year is almost over.  I can't wrap my head around. I guess we have been so busy with the house and other life stuff that the these last few months have just kind of flown on by, but I guess that is how it is for everyone.  But one day at a time folks. So today let's all take some time to meditate and relax and enjoy the simple little things, like a fresh cup of coffee or being the first one to walk on freshly fallen snow, or napping. Coffee naps. Walking through the snow with coffee and coming home to take a nap. Simple.

And on another fantastical l note. the mr and I... We bought plan tickets to Ireland! And along the way we are going to be spending a few days in Copenhagan and in Iceland. Holy Fuck right?(Merry Christmas/Happy Birthday/we have been trying to take a trip Ireland for a few years/to us. So yeah) I am so excited I can barely stand it. We are leaving at the end of January so I have a month to obsess over the absolute cheapest things to do, places to go, things to eat (I am scared of the food in Iceland) and modes of transportation. (If you got any good tips, please, throw them my way!)  Oh boy world, get ready!

And seriously people, chill. No need for a bunch of shopping, just make everyone cookies. IT will make everyone happy.

I am so confused. Is it December and almost Christmas or did I somehow sleep through it and its actually April and Easter.? If you tell me it's Easter, I'll probably believe you.

BUM!!! I am not a hater but man do I freaking HATE HATE this weather. And no, not just because I want a white Christmas, which I do, but because I love winter. I love the cold weather, the fresh crisp air, the quiteness, and the feeling the world takes on after a particularly large dump of snow. Not to mention the fact that I haven't gotten to enjoy much of my finest winter wardrobe (big baggy knit sweaters, or my happy green winter boots.) So so sad, but I have faith that winter will happen soon and all will be right with the world.

This past week was a good one. The mr turned a big number (lets say thirty something), We did a little birthday dinner here and another one there. He made grilled cheese sandwiches one night and buttered noodles another. The littles got to sing him the happy birthday song and eat strawberry ice cream. (and those same littles were eating my popcorn garland off of my tree. Monsters!) We went for a really pretty, kinda eire hike and a drive through the mountains. I made blondies and pickled crackers and we made a trip to Costco where every giant row of food had a person handing out a candy of some sort. (He came home and found melted chocolate in his sweater pocket)  It was a great week and an interesting week of food for him for sure.  I on the other hand.. I think I have eaten my weight in carrots and kale and am now glowing more orange then ever.

But it's Sunday guys! Time for... well today I am probably working all day, but whatever. It's good work, like new house work (I'll give you more of an update later this week) and It's not time sensitive work so I can go at my own slow pace, bring a thermos of coffee, maybe a break time book or a doodle pad and pencils. It will be fun and when I get home I will feel accomplished and ready for a quite night on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn watching either Home Alone 1 and/or 2 or The Santa Clause, We shall see!

How about you? You got any fantastic plans? Are you going to spend half the day on amazon trying to find that thing, at the price that ships on that day? Or is it the Easter eggs that need to be hidden? Well whatever you are doing today, make sure to take some time to yourself and relax., cause it's Sunday and we all need it.

YEAH! We got our tree this past weekend and now there is even less room to move around. (It takes up approximately1/4 of our living space, but I don't care. I love it!. We ventured south toth e rangers station, picked up our tree permit, and drove into the great mountains to find the smallest amount of (but still some) snow and the most perfect (so not even remotely close) tree growing snug, deep in the woods. We have been dong this for at least the past 5 years and every year, the trees we pick out get fatter and a little funnier. But they are always awesome and beautiful and make me the happiest! And now that we got our tree, I finally got to watch Elf. I say finally because me and the mr have a tradition where we string popcorn for the tree while watching it, so I usually wait until that night to watch it.(then I can watch it as much as I want after that)  Along with the popcorn, the mr suggested we do a paper chain (he is so smart) which came out so good and really classys up the tree.. I haven't taken any pictures of the decorated tree, but I will be sure to take some and show you later.

Other then the tree, this week was a world wind. Birthday parties, family crazy, new house stuff.  I powered through a couple of long nights and finished a quilt for one of the littles birthday. We have been going over to the new house almost everyday and doing a little this and a bit of that, on top of whatever else we do. Yup, another busy, fun and good, but very busy week. And now it's finally Sunday and all I am hopping for is a few hours of couch sitting with my book, and coffee, and some snow. (I have given up a little on winter here. What the F... Its just not right!)  And that's what I hope for you today, well I hope you take some time to do you and relax a bit. Maybe not go shapping ALL DAY or even feed the kids left over popcorn,  peanut butter sandwiches , and cookies for dinner tonight and just take some time to kick back. We all need it.

Oh, and to all of those celebrating.. Happy Hanukkah!

Sunday Happy

November 29, 2015 Colleen Stem

It’s been a crazy week for sure. The new house, Thanksgiving, (a few times), lots and lots of family… Let’s just say that I am one tired lady.

And now that thanksgiving is over (how did it go for you?) its holiday crazy go time. Although I am still really confused as to why the hell we haven’t gotten any snow. I am officially now pissed. It better snow soon or else (what I do not know) But things are getting real around here and I need to step up my game, like maybe even decorate the Noosk house with some lights, and of course Christmas music, 24/7. (the mr is not a fan of the music) Yeah, this is what I need to do.

A little new house update. First, we are going to start referring to the house as the Noosk house (cause its in Winooski) We have started ripping down the 70’s style tiled ceilings that are all over the entire house (so ug) and measure everything. Lots and lots of measuring. The mr is doing up house plans on a computer thingy and he needs to measure like ever nook and cranny of this place with exact measurements. Not something that I want to do (I bake cookies instead) And oh man, the oven. I don’t know what to do with it. I am falling in love with it but the mr says a hell no to keeping it. So until we do in fact get rid of it, I will continue to bring things over to bake in it.

So for today, I am going for a light load of work, maybe taking the afternoon off to finish up some little projects at home and to maybe keep myself from getting completely sick (I feel it coming on). I need to rest up for the onslaught of holiday cheer, cookie making, tree decorating, (YEAH TREE!!), light hanging, and wall and ceiling tearing down during the weeks ahead. “I am so EXITED! Are you?
